UniFirst Sponsors JA Programs at the OCHS

For the fourth consecutive school year, UniFirst Corporation partnered with Owensboro Catholic High School (OCHS) for the Junior Achievement (JA) Program, JA Titan. JA Titan, an interactive web-based business simulation, introduces students to critical economics and management decisions.

Through this partnership, UniFirst Corporation provided both the financial and volunteer resources needed to provide the JA Titan program to all four economics classrooms. Throughout the spring semester, UniFirst volunteers paired to team teach the program in all four of the participating classes. During these sessions, volunteers covered topics such as how to develop a management team, how to establish the product price, how to incorporate marketing/research and development strategies, how to increase product demand as well as other important business tools. In each classroom, students were assigned to groups to form companies, who then competed among other student companies in their individual classrooms to see which team could obtain the best performance index percentage. The competition concluded once all teams submitted business reports for 30 simulated business quarters.

UniFirst employees who also served as JA volunteers included: Jaime Bailey, Tanya Burdette, Lori Hayden, Deborah Hoefer, Denise Jarboe, Brandon Lucas, Lisa O’Bryan, David Roberts, David Rudd and Nick Whitesell.

Director’s Corner - Race for Education Update

On Friday, May 1st and Monday, May 4th, our students, with great enthusiasm and much fanfare, participated in a Race for Education to support Owensboro Catholic Schools.

The Elementary K-3 Campus students participated in relay races (celebrating the Kentucky Derby) in the gym and then walked the grounds chanting “We Are OC.” Students from the Elementary 4-6 Campus walked the Green Belt at Fisher Park and then participated in relay races. The students at OCMS walked to Shifley Park, around the park on the Green Belt, ate a picnic lunch and then participated in relay races before walking back to school. The students from OCHS spent part of their afternoon walking the circle walking path at Moreland Park.

I would like to share special thanks with our faculty and administrators who organized and then successfully implemented these special and incredibly successful events. Thanks and kudos to our students who so willingly and with much enthusiasm participated in the Race for Education to support their school.

On behalf of the OCS family and the Race Committee, I thank all who so generously supported our students with a donation. I am pleased and excited to inform you that as of this morning (Tuesday, May 5th), the donation amount stands at $69,385.37.

Please note that it is not too late to send in a donation for our Race for Education. Donations will be accepted through Friday, May 22nd. Again, thanks to all who have used this special opportunity to help us provide excellence in faith formation and academics at an affordable cost.

I appreciate all you do to help us fulfill our mission to provide excellence in faith formation and academics in a Christ-centered environment. As always, your comments and insights are important to me. I can be reached via phone at 852-8028 and email at ken.rasp@owensborocatholic.org.
