Ellen Wright, OCHS Senior, Competes with Various Horses

Ellen Medley Wright is one horse show shy of finishing her junior exhibitor career in Saddleseat Equitation. She has competed in four horse shows this summer with Championship and Grand Championship titles in both Equitation and Three-gaited classes at each show. Her beloved equitation horse, Kalu’s Can’t Stop The Magic, was not well enough to compete with her at the World Championship Horse show at the Kentucky State Fair, but her trainers and the other riders and their families were generous enough to offer horses for her to practice on once and ride in the competitions at the Show. She was thrilled with her ribbons on these borrowed horses but much more impressed by the kindness and generosity of so many people who were so willing to share their time and horses. She won the title of World Champion Junior Exhibitor Three-gaited 14-17 and Junior Exhibitor World Grand Champion of Champions three gaited age 14-7 on her performance horse , “A Travelin’ Man.” She was World Grand Champion Senior Saddleseat Kentucky Equitation Rider and Reserve World Champion Sixteen Year Old Saddleseat Equitation Rider on “Thunder Gone Wild “a horse loaned to her by Delovely Farm. Last but not least, Ellen was fourth out of 16 riders in the Senior Sadddleseat World Championship on a Horse who is scared to do the patterns required as part of the competition. This horse was loaned to her by a friend named Hunter Chancellor, and Ellen was able to encourage the horse through the pattern. This was the greatest accomplishment of the show as far as Ellen was concerned. Pictured are the many horses Ellen was privileged to show.

Parent-to-Parent: Passing Our Faith on to Our Children

Our Lady of Lourdes is holding monthly parent sessions in order to help you as parents to realize your calling as the Primary Educators of your children. These sessions, entitled “Parent-to-Parent: Passing Our Faith on to Our Children,” are discussion-based and oriented towards common problems we as parents face in raising our children in the faith.

The topic of the first session, held in early September, was “Establishing Catholic Identity in the Home” and received rave reviews. Next month on October 11th at 9:10am, we will be meeting again in the Lourdes Parish Hall. The topic for October is “The Good, The Bad, The Media” and will focus on things like MySpace, Facebook, iPods, iPhones, etc.

All parents are invited to come and join in the discussions. We will meet in October as well as November 15th, January 10th, February 21st, and March 14th at the same time and place. Coffee and donuts provided!

Owensboro Sister Cities and Regions Program

Our internationally recognized Owensboro Sister Cities and Regions program is in need of broad community support to host the largest one exchange wehave ever done!

On October 16 the Palacky University Chorus of approximately 30 persons willbe arriving in Owensboro to provide us with a series of communityperformances. We are in great need for the following:

1. Home host families providing lodging, breakfast and most dinners for thestudent(s) you host in your home arriving the evening of October 16 anddeparting the morning after Halloween. More information will be providedhost families. Guests will be dropped off at central locations for theirdaily activities.

2. Community institutions, organizations, civic clubs to host the choir atevents to allow our citizens to interact with the university students. It isa mutual learning experience. We can arrange for the choir to sign a song ortwo, or provide a performance depending on what you have planned. We areseeking that the host organization provide a meal.

3. Community businesses to offer to provide services at cost or slightlybelow cost (gratis is better we are a 501c (3)) to help us offset thecosts of this exchange. As you can imagine restaurants able to help providelunches are most needed.

4. Make a point to welcome the choir members to our community. We would liketo see our four SACS accredited institutions of higher education attracting increased numbers of students from our Sister Cities and giving our ownstudents increased opportunities to study in our Sister Cities.

5. Inform us of potential events or ideas which could be incorporated intothe schedule. We are a group of community volunteers and have no office support.

The best way of responding to our request is to email: sistercities@mac.com

Alternatively you can call 686 4644 and leave a message on the answeringmachine.
