OCHS Class of 2010 Ties Record ACT Composite Score

The Owensboro Catholic High School Class of 2010 tied the highest composite ACT score in school history with a 22.6. The National average composite score was a 21.0; the State composite was a 19.4.

Kurt Osborne, interim Principal at OCHS had this to say about the scores, “Today, I am proud to announce that the class of 2010 has equaled last year’s record setting numbers. With an average composite of 22.6, this ties our best ever score set the previous year. And, even more impressive, every single member of the graduating class of 2010 took the ACT.”

Osborne continued by saying “Scores can and will fluctuate from year to year so ACT recommends looking at 5 year trends, instead of focusing on year to year scores. Looking at those trends, even with the occasional dip in scores the overall trend for ACT scores is up. But even more important than getting caught up in numbers is exactly what these numbers tell us. They tell us that our students are more prepared for freshman college classes and that across the system our teachers are preparing students for the academic challenges they will face in the future. They tell us that our students continue to work hard in the classroom, and with test preparation and that our parents emphasize the importance of rigorous coursework and adequate test preparation.

While we are proud of the accomplishments that we as a school have made in this area, we are far from resting on our laurels. There is always room for improvement, and we as a faculty continue to assess our curriculum to make those improvements in all areas. This assessment will further prepare our students for college, and as a result, raise ACT scores.”

Day 1 Enrollment - Great News!

Create your own video slideshow at animoto.com.

The first day of the 2010-2011 school year is now history. Thanks and kudos to our Principals, faculty and staff for making sure that all was in order, appropriate and necessary preparations were successfully implemented, and students and their families were welcomed with open arms. As I went from school to school, it was amazing to witness the outpouring of love, warmth and genuine kindness being displayed by our OCS staff. It made me proud to be a member of an incredible team who approaches the opportunity to serve with genuine enthusiasm and boundless joy.
I am pleased to inform you our first day enrollment number is 1285. We began the 2009-2010 school year with 1266 students and ended the year with 1275 students. Certainly, on behalf of our teachers, administrators and staff I say thank you to all who have chosen OCS as their Catholic education partner. I am more convinced every day that we exist, and gain much strength, because of that choice being made by each of our families. The sacrifice being made in an environment where that choice has a price tag called tuition, is awe inspiring and absolutely worthy of celebration. May God shower His blessings and grace on our families through their continued sacrifice.

I appreciate all you do to help us fulfill our mission of excellence in Catholic faith formation and academics. As always, your comments and insights are important to me. I can be reached via phone at 852-8028 and email at ken.rasp@owensborocatholic.org.
God's Peace!

School starts this Wednesday, August 11! We are looking forward to a new year with our students at the K-3 Campus. We also look forward to meeting all of our new families joining OCS for the first time! The first day of school can cause a few "jitters", but after the students get into their classroom it only takes a short while before they get right back into the swing of things!

A few reminders: Students may be dropped off in the morning no earlier than 7:00 AM. Breakfast is served from 7:10 AM to 7:35 AM. The bell rings at 7:45 AM. We want everyone to get off to a good start, by being in their classroom BEFORE the 7:45 bell rings. Please make sure your child is at school on time.

In the afternoon, car riders will be dismissed at 2:30 PM. Parents must get out of their car and walk up to the front of the school building to get their child. Children are NOT allowed to roam through the lot looking for their parents car. For the first few weeks we will have a coned off area for Kindergarten students to stand in, to make it easier for parents to find their Kindergarten child.

If your child is a bus rider, make sure you know their bus numbers and send a note with those numbers to school. If you aren't sure which bus your child will ride, you can call the DCPS bus garage at 852-7080.
