Market Day News- We Need Your Help!

This month is the last Bonus Day Market Day sale! This is our last opportunity to earn a large amount of money in a single Market Day sale. The Bonus Day sale this month is with spring desserts. If we can sell 500 desserts, we will earn 45% of the profit on the sale of all the desserts (that is over $3,000!).

To make this sale interesting, we are having a contest where three lucky families will not only get delicious desserts, but will also win SCRIP gift cards as well. The one order with the most desserts will win a $50 SCRIP card. Then, everyone else who purchases a dessert will have their name entered into a drawing for a chance to win one of two $25 SCRIP gift cards. Each dessert you buy, gives you another chance in the drawing. The more desserts you buy, the better your chances of winning.

So begin planning ahead for this spring and buy a dessert for Easter, Mother's Day, First Communion or maybe Graduation. Every one of these desserts is incredibly delicious! Just complete the order form that was sent home and return it to school or go on-line and place your orders at www.marketday.com and use account number 28412.

Orders are due by Tuesday March 13th and pick up day is Saturday March 17th at the K-3 cafeteria between 10 and 11 am. If you have any questions, feel free to call me at 925-4181.

THANK YOU!

Elementary 4-6 Campus - Lent Project - Raining Respect

During the Lenten Season we are encouraged to give up something or to do something extra. Often these things we give up or do lead to a positive change in behavior or attitude.
This year for Lent, we would like to encourage a greater attitude of respect in our school. The final goal is to make respecting others a habit, a Christ-like habit which brings us closer to God. We encourage parents to expect this form of behavior at home as well; this will help form the respect habit much faster.

Faculty and staff will be watching and listening for respectful behavior from our students. Each time this behavior is observed or heard, the student will be verbally acknowledged and his/her class will earn a “raindrop.” The grade level with the most “raindrops” at the end of each week will receive an out of uniform day on the following Monday.
During the week of March 12, each grade level will be given the opportunity to earn more “raindrops” and at the same time give to the needy of our community. We will collect canned goods for the Help Office this week. Each student that brings in a canned food item will receive a “raindrop”. The students will still be earning “raindrops” for respectful behavior this week as well.

Lent at the Elementary K-3 Campus

Often for Lent we begin to think of what we are going to "give up." At the K-3 Campus we prefer to focus on what we can "give." We will be teaching the children about the importance of making little sacrifices and doing small acts of kindness for others all throughout the season of Lent.

Each student will be bringing home a template with footprints. Students will be encouraged to do small acts of kindness or sacrifices at home, and then fill out the form showing what they did for the week and return it to their teacher by Friday.

Each class will have a larger "footprint" in the cafeteria, and as the students do those little acts of kindness, we will move their class footprint on our path toward Easter.

This will be our gift to Jesus to thank Him for filling our lives with hope by his sacrificial death on the cross. We are using our good deeds and sacrifices to console Jesus on his journey to the cross.

We will also begin each morning with a meditation over the intercom retelling the story of Jesus' journey to the cross. You will see the story unfolding each day as we hang pictures in the hallway outside of the office.

In addition- all classes will go over to the church every week to pray the Stations of the Cross, and teachers will have different activities and lessons to teach children about the meaning of Lent and how it prepares us for the great celebration of Easter and Jesus' Resurrection.

University of Louisville's Engineering Expo

Every year U of L's Speed School of Engineering puts on an exposition ran by students to showcase the work its students have been doing as well as reach out to K-12 age students to teach them about engineering.

This year's theme is Engineering the World of Tomorrow and our keynote speaker is Jackie Swisher, an engineer at Walt Disney World. We are excited to hear Ms. Swisher discuss how Disney has used the principles of engineering to keep up with progress and build tomorrow!

E-Expo is free for students to attend.  This year E-Expo will take place on March 3rd, starting at 8am and going until around 4pm. Many of the student societies will have interactive projects for students to experience, there will be a free lunch, and each participant receives a t-shirt designed after this year's theme. There will also be lab tours of our facilities for students interested.

Registration for E-Expo can be found on our website:
