Director's Corner - Revised Tuition Announcement

The Owensboro Catholic Schools announce today new tuition rates for the 2009-2010 school year. The previously published 8% increase to the base tuition rate will be reduced to a 4% increase. The reduction in tuition is a direct result of all OCS faculty and staff sacrificing once again for the benefit of our families by accepting a salary freeze for the 2009- 2010 school year.

This level of dedication to the development of our students and commitment to our families is a testament to their willingness and professional approach in fulfilling the OCS Mission every day.

The OCS Mission statement is: Owensboro Catholic Schools share in the mission of the Church in cooperation with families to provide a religious and academic education which prepares students to become responsible members of family, Church, and community.

The current economic crisis engulfing our nation, state and region is the impetus behind this important decision. A growing number of our families are being negatively impacted by lay-offs, furloughed hours and days, lost overtime opportunities, and a growing number of other financial issues.

By accepting a salary freeze, OCS employees have provided a proactive solution for all OCS families experiencing economic difficulty. Please join me in thanking the OCS employees for the wonderful gift they have given to all OCS families.

Owensboro Catholic Schools joins all Catholic schools in the Diocese of Owensboro, some of our sponsoring Parishes and the Diocesan Pastoral Center in making similar decisions concerning a salary freeze for 2009-2010. We stand together in finding important ways to model Jesus and His love for all, especially the children, during these tough economic times.

By clicking on the attached link, you will access a sheet announcing the revised tuition rates for 2009-2010. A Press Conference was held in the Hayden Gym at the K-3 Campus at 9:00 AM this morning. Fr. Vaughan, members of the Executive Committee and our Principals will join me at the podium.

After the front page article in the Messenger Inquirer last week and the coverage that afternoon on Channel 14 concerning the announced tuition increase for 2009- 2010, it is our hope to present a story of dedication and commitment by OCS employees that results in the opportunity to lower the tuition increase, thereby positively impacting a family's ability to choose Owensboro Catholic Schools as their education partner.

Due to the importance of this significant decision and its impact on a family's ability to choose Owensboro Catholic Schools as their education partner, Pre-Registration for the 2009-2010 school year has been extended to Friday, April 10, 2009.

Please also note that we have informed PSAS of this change concerning tuition rates for 2009-2010. There is no need for anyone to contact PSAS in order to revise tuition information given on a submitted Student Aid Form.

I appreciate all you do to help us fulfill our mission of excellence in Catholic faith formation and academics. As always, your comments and insights are important to me. I can be reached via phone at 852-8028 and email at ken.rasp@owensborocatholic.org.

Channel 14 News is scheduled to air the segment on the 5 pm newscast.

Channel 25 News could air it at 5 pm, 6 pm and/or 10 pm newscast.

God's Peace!
