Mrs. Bev Howard, the recipient of the Beacon Award, has served for over 25 years in our community as a mentor, motivator and most importantly a role model for thousands of young people. She has made a difference in not only in the lives of young people, but has made a great impact on our community through many initiatives and efforts to address substance abuse.
Mrs. Howard was also instrumental pursuing the passage of the Social Host Ordinance in 2009 that now holds adults in Daviess County accountable if they provide a place for those underage to drink alcohol. If that is not enough that she is now in pursuant for the passage of a Keg Registration Ordinance to hold adults in our community accountable if they provide alcohol to those underage and an expanded Alcohol Beverage Server Training Ordinance to cover all venues in Daviess County that sell alcohol.
Mrs. Howard has given, and continues to give, a vast amount of time, effort and energy to help young people see their full potential and to motivate them to become good and productive citizens while at the same time helping them to understand the risks involved in using alcohol and other drugs. She is truly a treasure to our community.
