Director's Corner - Enrollment Update
Several weeks ago in a Director’s Corner, I excitedly reported to you the good news concerning our projected enrollment for 2011-2012 based on pre-registration. I am eager to share that the good news continues!
On Monday night at the OCS Education Council Meeting, I reported to the Council that our projected enrollment (1279 actually pre-registered and 58 currently enrolled and not yet pre-registered) could be 1337 students. I reminded the Council that our history over the past several years has shown that even though we have not enrolled all of those not yet pre-registered; we have successfully reached the projection with new students who pre-register during the summer. Reaching this enrollment count on the first day of school in August would not only mean showing growth in 3 of the last 4 years, our enrollment would be the largest since we reconfigured in 2004-2005. Amazing! God is surely blessing us.
On Monday morning prior to the Education Council meeting, the Leadership Team met to thoroughly review our enrollment projections by grade in order to make recommendations at the meeting concerning staffing needs for 2011-2012. Based on the projections by grade, we recommended to the Education Council the following:
• Add a 6th Kindergarten class – There are currently 130 Kindergartners pre-registered with still others in the pipeline. Certainly this is the biggest Kindergarten class in recent history.
• Add a fourth 5th Grade class – We currently have four 4th Grade classes (97 enrolled students). The projected enrollment is 101.
• Add a fourth 6th Grade class – We currently have three 5th Grade classes (83 enrolled students). The average class is 27.7. Our projected enrollment is 86. Our decision to grow by one class and lower the average size of each class was based on our desire to meet the individual learning needs of these students.
I am extremely excited to report that after discussion, both the Education Council and Fr. John Vaughan, OCS Priest-Pastor, approved this recommendation. The process of posting job announcements for these new and important positions has begun.
I appreciate all you do to help us fulfill our mission of excellence in Catholic faith formation and academics. As always, your comments and insights are important to me. I can be reached via phone at 852-8028 and email at ken.rasp@owensborocatholic.org .
