Director's Corner - Swine Flu Information
I am sure that all of you have been following the news concerning the Swine Flu outbreak in Mexico, with some cases being reported in parts of the US. The Commissioner of Public Health and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention has provided a set of directives to the public and health care providers concerning this potential pandemic event.
The Green River District Health Department has created a summary of these recommendations and has asked us to distribute it to the OCS family. A copy of that summary is written below.Green River District Health Department is closely monitoring the evolving situation related to the potential swine flu outbreak. GRDHD leadership has stayed in close contact with Dr. Hacker, Commissioner of Public Health, and the experts from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
As of this publication (9:45 am, 4/27/09), there is NO SWINE FLU reported in Kentucky.
Public Health is asking citizens to take simple preventative measures to try to stay healthy.
· Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue, your sleeve or material when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it and wash your hands.
· Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol- based hand cleaners are also effective.
· Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way!
Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
· Influenza is thought to spread mainly person-to-person through coughing or sneezing of infected people.
· If you do get sick, the CDC and GRDHD recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them. For more information, log on to the following websites:
