Market Day Starts in September
Market Day is a terrific and easy fundraiser for our school. (And the food is delicious too!)
In order to facilitate this fundraiser, volunteers are needed for one Saturday morning per month to unload, count and pack orders. The first pick up date is September 17th.
This year we would like to reach out to the Daviess County parishes. We are asking for one volunteer from each parish to take Market Day fliers to their church monthly and to place a reminder in their bulletin for each sale. If you are interesting in helping with Market Day, please contact Michaeline Joiner, mmjskj@cs.com or 270-229-2944.
Click on the link to set up your own Market Day account. You can order on line and when you come to pick up your order on September 17 everything will be boxed up and ready to go with your name on it!

Opening Day of School - Enrollment and Welcome to New Families!
The first day of the 2011-2012 school year is now history. Thanks and kudos to our Principals, faculty and staff for making sure that all was in order, appropriate and necessary preparations were successfully implemented, and students and their families were welcomed with open arms. As I went from school to school, it was amazing to witness the outpouring of love, warmth and genuine kindness being displayed by our OCS staff. It made me proud to be a member of an incredible team who approaches the opportunity to serve with genuine enthusiasm and boundless joy.
As you read in the Messenger Inquirer yesterday morning, there certainly is excellent news to report about opening day enrollment. Our opening day count was 1353 students, a 5.21% increase over our 2010-2011 opening day enrollment of 1286. Incredible!
Please note the following:
· OCS is larger than it has been since we reconfigured in the fall of 2004 (opening day enrollment of 1328).
· This is the 3rd time in 5 years that we have shown growth from one school year to the next on opening day.
· The Kindergarten class of 132 is the largest in 12 years. In 2000-2001 we started the year with 142 in the Kindergarten class.
· We are joined this fall by 188 new students. What an amazing statistic! Of those, 111 come from 101 families who are joining the OCS family for the first time. Please join me in welcoming them to our school system and family. On behalf of our teachers, administrators and staff I say thank you to all who have chosen OCS as their Catholic education partner. I am more convinced every day that we exist, and gain much strength, because of that choice being made by each of our families. The sacrifice being made in an environment where that choice has a price tag called tuition, is awe inspiring and absolutely worthy of celebration. May God shower His blessings and grace on our families through their continued sacrifice.
I appreciate all you do to help us fulfill our mission of excellence in Catholic faith formation and academics. As always, your comments and insights are important to me. I can be reached via phone at 852-8028 and email at ken.rasp@owensborocatholic.org.
God's Peace!

For all you parents at home wondering how your sweet little one is doing at school, you can rest assured that they are doing just fine! The day started very smoothly. It truly is a special place and the best of both worlds- an awesome faculty, challenging curriculum, the latest technology, and BEST of ALL- CHRIST CENTERED!
We are looking forward to having a wonderful school year. Many Blessings to you and to your family. Please know that you are always welcome in our school. You can come in to visit, volunteer, or eat lunch. If you want to order a lunch, make sure you call by 9:00, so we will have plenty of food!

Drop Off and Pick Up Procedures
With over 400 students being dropped off and picked up at the K-3 Campus each day, it is important that we have a specific routine for both morning and afternoon. Please review the following so we can safely get children into and out of the building each day. Thank you for your help.
Morning Drop Off
Car Riders may drop children out anywhere from the front door to the end of the building. Staff members will be there to supervise. Reminder that cars CAN go around busses parked at the end of the building- even if the STOP sign is out. We have special permission to do this in our parking lot ONLY. Students may enter the front door OR the side cafeteria door. Students who arrive before 7:30 will be directed to the cafeteria. School starts at 7:45. Please be on time!
Afternoon Dismissal
In the afternoon, parents who pick up should get out of the car and walk up to the front row, so that children will easily find their ride.
For the first few weeks Kindergarten students will stay in the "coned" area until a parent or older sibling gets them. Younger siblings should NOT walk up to the school without adult supervision.
NO PETS are allowed in the parking lot during afternoon pick up. If you have a dog that rides with you to pick your child up- please leave the dog in the car.

Mark Your Calendar for the Following August Events:
August 24- 6:00 PM-Parent Curriculum Night- This is a night for parents only to come in and let the teacher talk to you about what you can expect in the upcoming school year. Please make other arrangements for children.
August 25- 9:00 AM- K-3 Campus Opening Mass-Come celebrate with us.
August 26- Free Dress Day
Just a reminder- students may wear their Faith in Education shirts with uniform pants, skirts, or shorts every Friday.
Afternoon DismissalIn the afternoon, parents who pick up should get out of the car and walk up to the front row, so that children will easily find their ride.
The BIG Day is almost upon us! School starts this Wednesday, August 10. Remember that our day begins at 7:45, so have your child at school by 7:40 so they can get to class on time! The doors open at 7:00 AM.

Elementary K-3 Campus Cafeteria Volunteers Needed
The Elementary K-3 Campus needs more parents and/or grandparents to volunteer to help in the cafeteria. This is a fun way to get to know the little faces at the K-3 Campus and help open ketchup, wipe off tables, and just feel like a kid again!
Volunteers are needed from 10:50-12:50 each day. If we have plenty of volunteers, you can work just a few days each month.
Amy Pride is organizing the volunteers this year. We still need more workers on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. (We seem to have plenty for Monday and Wednesday.)
If you can help and give of your time several times each month, it would be greatly appreciated! You can call Amy at 686-7929 or email her at amypride3@att.net to volunteer. Thank you!
